Talmud & Apocrypha
After Malachi, there have been several books added to "the Bible", namely the Apocrypha and the Talmud. There is a variety of choices of books for the Apocrypha, some dealing with the 400 years of silence, some dealing with Jesus as a child. These are believed by most Christians and Jews to be not trustworthy books. Roman Catholics have a variety (5 I think) that they include as trusted sources.
The Talmud is a collection of writings that can include the Old Testament depending on who is describing it, and then many many volumes of explanation and exposition (careful worded explanation) based primarily on Leviticus and Deuteronomy as I understand it. We will use Talmud to refer to non-OT writings. The Talmud by many Jews is considered more important that the Bible because it explains it. The Talmud, according to a Rabbi friend of mine, is not complete, indeed it will not be complete until at a minimum the Messiah comes. Of course, if he understood the truth, he would realize that the Messiah has already come.
Jesus quotes a couple times from the Talmud. (Matt 5:33 is one)
