Over the weekend, the Liberal party of Canada adopted as official Liberal policy, that the government must hold online information services (like the CBC and youtube and Globe and mail and any other 'information service') accountable for the veracity of material published on their platforms and to limit publication only to material whose sources can be traced."
Think about this. Trudeau keeps saying one thing, then another. And much of what he does say is patently a lie (unfortunately like most politicians of all stripes).
This means the Liberal part of Canada just adopted as a policy that nothing their leader says can be published on "information services" again.
At first blush, this would be wonderful for Canada.
Unfortunately, Trudeau isn't the only one who will be muffled. Although of course, I'm sure if the government adopts this policy, they will modify it so that Grade six Drama Science and lies by the party in power will still be allowed.
And who decides? As just one example of many, Trudeau said "The allegations in the Globe store this morning are false" on Feb 7, 2019 - and later we found out that the Globe reported 100% the truth AND that Trudeau knew it was the truth when he was claiming it was false. Or the statement that I initially thought was a mean spirited/deep fake joke against Trudeau when on April 24th 2023 he said that he never forced people to have the COVID-19 vaccine, when the truth is - he most certainly did, unless he thinks threatening for people to lose their careers not just their job is not 'forcing.'
Reminds me of 2 other Liberal politicians:
Daddy Trudeau campaigned promising he wouldn't bring in a 4 cent per litre gas tax (that he brought down the minority Joe Who government on), so instead he brought in a higher tax and the infamous NEP then laughed at the electorate saying essentially "I told the truth, I said I wouldn't bring in a 4 cent per liter gas tax." Notice the difference in intelligence, Daddy Trudeau didn't lie, he just stuck his middle finger up at the electorate. Justin will never be accused of being as smart as his dad.
Or Jean Chretien who said effectively "I said I would Kill, Scrap, Abolish the GST, I didn't say I'd get rid of it."
Back to present day:
This adopted policy shows the unfortunate attitude of the people behind the Liberal party.
If this policy goes through to law, ironically all the major news vendors in Canada will become 'fake' or at best 'useless' news about Susy losing her dog for 2 hours- because that's all they'll have left to report on. No more digging for truth, no more asking embarrassing questions of political leaders, no more reporting information currently available (how can you be sure that years from now there won't be new information that shows that you were wrong? Or that Trudeau will call you a liar even when it was true? Let alone finding new information weeks from now which has been normal with Liberal scandals the last few years that shows your report wasn't fully true?
Add this policy to the recently passed Bill C-11 that gives the Liberal government the power to control everything on the Internet for those in Canada, and horror of horrors, the CRTC, who has been known for decades for it's heavy handed approach, to decide all the details. So since someone will have to be the decider of what should be considered truth - does that mean that the CRTC because the court of truth for journalism? Or does it mean that Trudeau will? I suspect the Liberal conventioneers that voted this through are assuming that Justin Trudeau will be the decider of what is truth and what is not for all matters of science, law and politics going forward - isn't that a dictatorship?
And Trudeau complains about Poilievre trying to control the news? Those complaints are clearly a joke to have people look away from what they, the Trudeau Liberals, are actually doing to muzzle and control the news in Canada. This combined with Trudeau's game of invoking the Emergencies Act when noisy truckers came to Ottawa - but not even suggesting it when government workers shut far more down across the country using similar tactics. At least when the Nazi's did things like this, it was all by the party leader, the Liberal party members are doing Trudeau's work for him - trying to hand him dictatorial rights by shutting down the news.
