The Canadian Government About the Technical Quality of their Passports

Since 1977 I have been complaining on and off to the Canadian Government about the technical quality of their passports. I have had I believe more than 15 passports through the years. Most of them have not expired because of the 5-year limit, but because their crap quality makes them fall apart in warm humid environments.

In each case, including my most recent, humidity leaked in and damaged the photo requiring that I pay to replace it.

My most recent passport was one of the last of the old design. After 18 hours in Panamá city, Panama, this is what it looked like:

And the humidity is starting to leak into my photo (probably partly due to previous trips with this same passport).

I'll be lucky if I make it back home with this passport - I have 5 more times I have to use it.

In the past, I either never got a response back from the liberal governments when I complained, and when I complained to the conservative government about 2013 I got back a 'we'll look into this, I've never heard this complaint before'.

My wife and kids got the 'new' passport and they so far - 20 hours in, are fairing a lot better.

Well at least the photo page is. It is now a heavy plasticized page. I guess the conservative 'we'll look into it' decided at least my complaint about the photo page was worth considering, and I guess, after 5+ years under the liberal government they did at least fix THAT page.

Well, likely it wasn't because of my constant complaining, it's probably more because I understand they are now for THAT page at least, following a multi-country standard, so Canada benefited from countries that know how to make a passport.

Over the past 10 years under the liberals, they did make a change to the Canadian passport. They removed all the iconic images that proudly showed Canada's heritage, images like the RCMP "Musical Ride" with woke stylized images of birds, boy jumping etc.., So rather than fix the technical issues of our passport, the Liberals 'fixed' the iconic things Canada was proud of and replaced them with Liberal approved images.

But the overall passport is still poor quality. So I guess they only decided to follow world wide standards for passports for that page and follow the Liberal woke philosophies for the rest of the passport.

I'll complain again under the new government, whenever the Liberals decide to let us have it. (This is written in January 2025, at a point in time where Justin Trudeau has promised he will resign after he gives his party time to put it's house in order by proroguing parliament. It's not like there is anything important that has to dealt with right now (like Trump coming to power next week and promising a 25% tariff on Canadian goods.")
