The answer, both of them, are deterministic.
I do not understand why this is such a difficult question.
It is a religious question, not a difficult one.
If your religion is one like Christianity and you believe God created the bird. Then you believe the CHICKEN came first.
If your religion is evolution and you believe the chicken evolved from some less primitive form, then you believe the EGG came first.
It really is as simple as that. It is not a tough question. The tougher question is - do you believe this complex world just happened by accident (evolution) or do you believe a superior being (God) created it.
As for me, "In the beginning was the word (Jesus) ... and through him everything was made, and without him nothing was made." I find the evidence overwhelmingly in favor of that cf evolution - and yes I have studied science of all sorts for decades. But I understand for many people it is more comfortable to believe there is no God that they are beholden to, and I have had them try to belittle me for my, as they think of them, primitive beliefs. But that is a discussion for a different day and different page.
As for the 'Which came first, the chicken or the egg', I came to this conclusion when I was about 12 years old, and I still believe the 2 answers should be 'obvious', 'simple' and 'intuitive' if you really believe what you say you believe, after all, I, as a twelve year old figured the two answers out the first time it was posed to me - I had heard the 'evolution' argument prior to the chicken/egg question. They are only a 'question' if you doubt what you claim you believe or if you don't choose to think critically.
